Character Creation

The Basics

Everyone is first level. All races are allowed, but any race that isn’t on the Core list (Dwarf, Elf, Gnomes, Caliban, Human, Halfling, Half-Elf, Half-Vistani) will be an extremely special case. All classes are allowed, with some caveats. Try not to create a monster. At least, not one who will outshine other PCs.

Assume average gp for your class—for instance, barbarians take 105 gp, fighters take 175 gp, rogues take 140 gp.

Generate your abilities using either 15 Point Buy or this array: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8.

Hit Points are always 1/2 +1, or “average rounded up”.

Backstory

First, consult the basic setting info. Second, consider a few questions.

Here’s something else to consider: Are you a native, or an Outlander? Outlanders should be kept at a minimum—I don’t want more than one or two in this party, tops. An Outlander is, simply, somebody who was not born in the Demiplane of Dread. Perhaps they were dragged here along with a domain. Perhaps they were simply snatched up by the Dark Powers. Nonetheless, Outlanders should be the exception, not the rule.

Important House Rules

The full list of house rules is here. Particularly notable are the Feats and Skills.

Also, it is worth considering whether or not your character has already failed one or two Powers Checks, or whether they are Innocent. “Neither” is a choice, by the way. Not everyone can be “perfect”, but that doesn’t mean they’re on the road to moral ruin.
